Dean Spriddle

Dean Spriddle has played golf since the age of 3, and still remembers the first attempt at hitting the ball.

He played as a junior in the Kingdom of Fife in Scotland and played for Fife at the Boys, U21 and Men’s level before moving to Canada to pursue a scholarship at UBC. It was indeed Spriddle’s runner up finish in the World Student Golf Championships in Sardinia that brought him to Canada.

After completing his Master’s in Coaching Science Spriddle started to coach and play for a living. Spriddle played for BC in the Willingdon Cup in 1991 and turned professional shortly thereafter.

After three years on the Canadian Tour Spriddle retired from full time playing in July of 1995, to concentrate on teaching and coaching and with the pending birth of their first child. It was shortly after that Spriddle had the idea for a year round driving range in Lethbridge and so Evergreen was started.

Spriddle was, at the time, coaching the Alberta Ladies Golf teams and was asked to Coach the CLGA National Team in 1999. Spriddle was to be the National Women’s Coach for 10 years and in that time won numerous teaching awards including the Alberta PGA Teacher of the Year (four times) and the CPGA National Teacher of the Year in 2002. Spriddle was selected as one of Canada’s top 10 teachers in 2005.

Spriddle has created new programs for kids in and around Southern Alberta and continues to teach and coach programs such as his HPG winter kids program, a successful adult Coaching program and has just initiated an all Girls golf tour to develop female players in Alberta. These types of programs have been responsible for over 30 local kids obtaining scholarships at schools in Canada and the US.

Spriddle was recently recruited in February of 2010 to develop and coach the coaches and players of Puerto Rico, with the mandate of being in the top 3 in the World Amateur by 2012. Spriddle still loves to play and compete and plays in about a dozen or so events annually.
